Tuesday April 1, 2014, At Sea

We were up this morning at 4:30.  No, that isn't an April fool's joke.  I had set the coffee to make a large cup for each of us.  Most of our packing was finished last night, including our insulated cups.  We drank our morning coffee from regular open cups.   We tend to forget how much more quickly it cools off.  I should have made more.

Besides getting ready to travel, we had to finish getting everything off the kitchen counters and out of the master bathroom.  The remodeling starts later today.  We are hoping everything is done when we return.

I am seldom up in time to see a sunrise.  There were layers of dark clouds in the east, south and west.  It was light between the layers and way to the east I could see Vigra under the clouds.  The wind had calmed some during the night, but the pool surface was covered with floating leaves with a lot already on the bottom.  It's a good thing that Jesse comes on Tuesdays.  The sun itself did't peek through the layers until 6:45.

Gerri's brother, Hollis, picked us up and carried us to the airport.  It wasn't busy at the Southwest check in.  We sailed through security.  I didn't even have to get out of the wheelchair.  Gerri also got through without taking off her shoes.  We were at our gate by 8:30.  Plenty of time for our 10:00 flight.

We made it through LAX and on to the bus to the harbor.  We got to the ship check in at about 1:30.  The ship had been two hours late getting in, so the check in and though security was a mess.

We got to our suite and some of our luggage arrived.  We decided to get something to eat before unpacking.  We went to the Horizon Court.

Our suite is on the port side, giving us a view out of the harbor.  We can see the back and part of the starboard side of the USS Iowa, BB-61.  The battle ship is on display at the San Pedro harbor.

Because the ship was late getting into port, our muster and life jacket drill was delayed until after 4:15. This Is a smaller ship than the Royal Princess and there was no seating.  Our suite is on the 12th deck and the muster stations are on deck 7, so I got quite abit of walking in.  Of course our sailing was also delayed.  We got underway at 6:15 and were out of the harbor by 7PM.  Just after dark we passed to the north of Catalina Island.

Our dinner seating for this trip is 7:45.  Like everything else dinner started late.  The food was good and the three other couples seemed nice.  Since dinner was late, we decided we did't have time to make it to the 9 PM show.

Tonight we set the clocks back an hour. By that time we were back in our cabin and ready for bed by nine.  We went to bed anyway.
