Thursday October 9, 2014 Lahaina, Maui, HI

There was a breeze this morning that cooled things off a little.  We have noticed that the days are considerably shorter than when we got here last month.  The construction noise is louder and seems to start earlier.  Added to the normal activity it was mowing day.  This was the first time I noticed the mower using a riding mower, John Deere of course.  We had our coffee and and morning reading time.

That is Kaho'olawe in the distance, population 0
At around noon I went out to find a few geocaches.  Gerri had already gone out to sit by the pool and Neva was staying in out of the wind reading  Before leaving I sat out the fruit and cheese and crackers. I went back to a cache south of Lahaina that I had been unable to find a few days ago. Another cacher had found it and posted a picture that helped me find the cache.  The cache was up a steep hill and there was quite a view from the cache area.  With the breeze there were no clouds blocking the view of Lanai.  To the south and west Kaho'olawe was visible without too much haze from the volcano on Hawaii.

I did three more caches before returning to the resort.

Gerri and Neva waiting at Pacific O
Tonight we have reservations for a luau in Old Town Lahaina.  We got ready and left the resort at 4:45 and were at the luau location by a little after 5.  The entrance was right next to the Pacific O restaurant.  It had been recommended by friends so we made reservations to eat there on Saturday evening.

The luau opened for seating at 5:30.  We choose the Feast at Lele because they had sit down service as opposed to a buffet.  The meal was nine courses.  Each coming from a different part of the polynesian islands.  I don't know if the taro chips with Poi or salsa was counted in the nine.  The dishes started with Hawaiian and progressed through Akaroan, Samoan, and Tahitian.  It was an epicurean delight.  There was chicken, beef, fish, shrimp and calamari along with an assortment of vegetable dishes both hot and cold. I wish I could remember the names of the dishes to order later.  Of course being a luau there was entertainment between courses featuring dances from the the polynesian cultures, ending with the fire dancers.  No pictures of the fire dancers. They didn't want video lights.

Sunset over Lanai

Last but not least, dessert

Back at the resort we read for a short while and caught up on e-mail and facebook before retiring.

This was a good day and a great evening.  None of us had been to a luau for many years and we enjoyed it very much.
