Thursday August 11, 2016 Little Bras D'Or, Nova Scotia, Canada

Cloudy and cool this morning with a breeze.  We had our coffee and caught up on computer stuff.

Our group activity for the day was a tour of the Louisbourg Fortress followed by dinner at the Beggar's Banquet.  We were told that there was a lot of walking during the tour, so we left early.

Gerri had read that there were golf carts available on a limited basis.  The visitor center was several kilometers from the fortress and most tours went there by a shuttle bus and walked around the restored parts of town.  We were given instructions how to get to the handicap parking nearer the fortress.  Two other members of the group went with us.  Ben had arranged  a golf cart to meet us and we were given a tour of the restored town and fortress.

The guide told us that what we were seeing was about 1/5 of the original size in 1744.  I found one cache in the Artillery Yard under a gun carriage.

Found it

Before dinner we had time to drive around the harbor to the light house.  We could see the schooner Bluenose at the dock in Louisbourg.  We sailed on the Bluenose in Lunnenberg.  We were a day early to see her when she visited Baddeck.

The fog rolled in so fast we were barely in time to see the lighthouse.

For dinner at the Beggar's Banquet we were all issued period clothing, long cotton shirts and short pants if you choose to change into them. Ladies were dressed in the style of the times with long dresses and bonnets.

Gerri had crab legs and I had lobster.  There was dancing and entertainment after supper.

Guess who?

Louisbourg was about 30 miles from the RV park.  There wasn't much left of the evening by the time we got back.  Some computer time and reading took us to bedtime.
