The tour was through a demonstration mine built during the 100th anniversary celebration of Canada. We only went about 60' underground and walked about a quarter mile in the low, wet and dirty mine shaft. The coal field here originally went far out under the sea. The history of coal mining in Cape Breton pretty much mirrored that of West Virginia and other coal fields during the early 20th century. Hard work, low pay and near slavery to the companies.

We visited the site of Marconi's first trans Atlantic wireless broadcast. I looked without luck for two nearby caches.
We were back at the RV park by 2 PM. It had started raining. We had a late lunch of sandwiches. Most of the rest of the afternoon was spent watching the rain come and go, reading and watching TV.
The setting sun put on a great show for us tonight.
Tomorrow we have a drive of over 300 miles. The original plan was for the caravan to take a ferry to Prince Edward Island. One of the ferries is out of service, so we will be taking a bridge. We will be driving back to New Brunswick and then enter PEI.
