Sunday August 21, 2016 Perce, Quebec, Canada

Goodbye Blue Heron
We woke up to the sound of engines starting.  Some people want to get an early start on travel days.  We were up with our coffee and under way by ten.  I only had to unhook the water and electric.

After only about 30 miles we left New Brunswick and crossed into Quebec Province.

Most of the drive was along the coast of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.  Unlike most of the rest of the trip every small town had a rest area.  We only stopped at a few.  Unlike New Brunswick all the signs in Quebec are in French.
French only
We passed a lot of yard sales, care had to be taken watching the people that didn't pull all the way off the highway.  When we got to Quebec Provence we set our clocks back to eastern time.  We were in the park and set up by 2, Eastern Time.  The sites here are close together and the front of the coach is barely off the street. We have full hookups including 50 amp electrical.  The drive was 170 miles and took about 5 hours.
Every small town had a large church

Cap Blanc Phare

From the street in front of the coach we can see the lighthouse the park is named for.  Camping du Phare roughly translates to English as Camping at the Lighthouse.  We can also see the Gulf of St. Lawrence from the street and in back of the coach.

Tomorrow we were scheduled for a boat ride around Bonneventure Island and the wagon masters were to supply a sack lunch.  That tour was cancelled due to the prediction of high winds and rain.  The sandwiches will now be given to us tomorrow night so that we will have them on our travel day.

Roche Perce
Since it appears that we only have this afternoon to see the sights here we decided to go sightseeing.  Our first stop was the rest area just outside the RV park from there we could see Roche Perce.  This is a sheer limestone rock rising 290 feet out of the sea.  It is 1400 feet long and 296 feet wide.  Perce is French for pierced.  The piercing in this case is a large arch.  The arch is 50 feet high, making it one of the tallest natural arches in the world.  There was also a cache in the rest area that I didn't find.  Moe and I came back later after translating the French text into English and found it.

The beach at White Bay

We visited White Bay.  A lot of glass is supposed to be washed ashore here.  It was cold and windy so we didn't go on the beach.  Apparently some locals weren't as wimpy as us, there were several groups in bathing suits up and down the beach.

We Stopped at a historic country store, circa 1928.  Turns out that the store is really now a museum with an $11 entry fee per person and the tours are only in French.  We passed.

Back at the park we visited with Pat and Moe.  Moe and I went and found the cache just outside the park.

Gerri prepared a stroganoff dish for dinner along with corn on the cob and Lima beans. While she was cooking the noodles the microwave stopped.  Dead batteries.  I checked and the circuit breaker was off at the power box.  I flipped the breaker a couple of times and the power came back on.

Some reading and computer time brought us to bed time.  By 10:30 the predicted winds had started,
