Wednesday July 9, 2014 Homer , Alaska

Welcome to Old Town Homer
It rained most of the night.  When we got up at 9:30 it was, still raining.  Visibility was limited to not far beyond the beach.  We couldn't see the mountains surrounding the bay.

At about 12 noon I went to the fish processing place and picked up our halibut.  21 pounds is quite a few packages of 1.5 pounds each.  We also got a package of halibut cheeks.  Everyone says that is the best part of the halibut and is an entirely different kind of meat from the filets. They are suppose to taste like lobster.  Now we have to find out how to cook halibut cheeks.  I will skip the obvious joke here.

Whatever it is, it overflowed.into the street
When we did get moving we went to a visitor's center and picked up a map of Homer.  We got instructions to the Old Town and shopping.  We never made it to the shopping  We met Bob and Rebecca and Craig and Leslie at the Bear Creek Lodge.  From there we went back to the Spit. We were behind the others on the way back.  We decided to take another route and were stopped for 20 minutes by road construction about 4 car lengths from our turn.

We spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening kibitzing with them before returning to the coach for dinner.  Gerri warmed up leftovers for dinner.

Gerri finished up some wash, I was very messy today.  I spilled everything I touched and got blood on my shirt.  Back to more band aids on places I thought had healed.

In spite of the rain we had a good day loafing, sightseeing and visiting.

Not too long a drive tomorrow back to Anchorage.  We have traveled all the route coming to Homer and it is excellent roads.  We will be in Anchorage 3 nights before moving on to Denali.  You may remember that as McKinley before history was rewritten.
