Typical sight out the windshield |
I don't remember when the rain started again but it rained most of the way to Anchorage. The drive was back along the road we had already traveled. The road was narrow through some areas and winding most of the way. We had a strong headwind much of the way. Around the Turnagain arm the wind seemed to buffett us from all directions. Traffic was heavy at times and I pulled over several times to let faster drivers by.
Many miles later the scenery hadn't changed. |
When we got to Anchorage we pulled through a Sam's club but they didn't have a gas station at this one. We went on to the RV Park. We arrived at the park at 3 and got set up. The spaces here are narrow. But we got in alright.
Dinner tonight was fresh halibut that some of us had caught on Tuesday. Ben and Nancy cooked that . We celebrated a couple of birthdays and a 10 year anniversary.
After dinner we had our briefing on the trip to Denali and the activities there.
We are in Anchorage for three nights. Tomorrow we are schedule for a bus tour at 8:45. Saturday will be a free day and we leave for Denali Sunday morning.
For some reason today I started thinking about the places and wildlife we had seen. The wildlife here is quite diverse, especially in the ocean. I think that when we live in the city many are easily influenced by people teaching evolution. In the abstract evolution may start to make sense. But here in the gulf of Alaska and the bays, inlets and fjords that run off it things become clear. There had to be a creator that brought together the conditions that produce food for so many creatures. The humpbacked whale is one example, they come thousands of miles for the abundant krill and plankton to feed on and then go back to far places to breed and have their young in warm water where they can grow large enough to survive in the frigid water where the plentiful food is.. The creatures large and small that make up the cycle of life and the food chain cannot have happened by chance. I thank God for all this and our ability to see and enjoy this beautiful world he created.
