Leaving the Yukon for the last time |
This
was another morning that we could have slept in, with 208 miles to travel. We had our coffee and got ready to
travel. All I had to do outside was
unhook the power. Gerri brought the
slides in and the rain water that had accumulated during the night drained off.
Welcome to British Columbia |
The
route today was along PH-37. Shortly
after leaving the RV Park we passed from the Yukon into British Columbia for
the last time.
From Skagway we had entered
British Columbia and after turning east on the Alaska Highway we crossed the
border between BC and the Yukon Territory several times.

About
six miles from the RV Park we saw our first and only bear. It was a young black bear. We had no place to pull off the road so we
only watched it for a short time.
The
road was rough at first and got worse as we traveled. There was a lot of construction and several
stretches of gravel road. Add in the
rain and it was a long 208 miles to Tatogga Lake. We passed several beautiful lakes. We saw tall forests and stunted ones. Some of the flowers along the road were beautiful.
Along the way we stopped at Jade City. It is one of the largest jade claims in the world and produces much of the worlds jade. My step-dad, Ted, would have loved this place. They had gigantic saws and polishers to finish the surface of the jade. Ted had many of the same types of machines, but on a smaller scale. They sold everything from small chips and jewelry to giant pieces either finished or unfinished.
The store at Jade City |
It
rained hard before dinner and after a break, rained more during the night.
Internet
was slow but we managed to catch up on e-mail and Facebook before bed time.
