Following the Barkers

Thursday August 28, 2014 Verdi, NV

We started our day as usual with coffee and computer.  We were supposed to meet friends for breakfast, but they cancelled.  By the time they had cancelled we were already near the restaurant. We went ahead and had breakfast alone at Peg's Glorified Ham and Eggs. http://eatatpegs.com/ Gerri had corned beef hash with eggs and I had the huevos rancheros.

We made another stop at Costco on the way back to the RV Park. Gerri spent some time hunting her eggs while I went caching.  I tried to find a way to get to one without trespassing.  I didn't find a way.  I walked to another and had no luck finding it.  I was trying to find a road to another cache and ended up on an I-80 on ramp headed west. I had to go six miles to turn around.  I did find one cache on a river access road at a turnout on the Interstate.  By then it was time to hurry back to the RV.

We went to Kathleen's and visited with her and the kids.  We decided on Italian food for dinner and settled on a restaurant named Casale's Halfway Club.  Kathleen found it on Yelp; http://www.yelp.com/biz/casales-half-way-club-reno.  I have no idea where it is halfway to or from.  Maybe they mean it's not quite a club.  It fit the description given by one of the reviewers and it only lacks a block of being in Sparks instead of Reno. The kids choose not to go out for dinner.

Despite the outwardly appearance, our first impression was good. We were met and welcomed at the door by the owner.  He introduced us to his Grandmother Inez, who took over the restaurant with her family in 1969.  Under previous owners the restaurant was started in 1937 and claims to be the oldest restaurant still operating at the same location in Reno and the oldest restaurant in Nevada.  Kathleen and Gerri had the Lasagna and I had spaghetti and meatballs.  The dinner came with soup or salad and plenty of garlic bread.  We really liked the place, it had character and great food at reasonable prices.

Back at Kathleen's we visited for awhile before returning to the RV.  We caught up on computer activities and read until an early bedtime.
