Ben was around thumping our tires at about 8. We got up then and made the coffee. With a little over 300 miles to travel today we didn't hurry with getting ready to travel. Even at that we weren't the last to leave Dunromin. We stopped and topped off the fuel tanks about a quarter mile away from the park and saw at least two others of our group pass. Diesel was $0.962 Canadian per liter or about $2.92 US per gallon. We are told that we should top off before getting on the ferry to Newfoundland because they just increased both their sales tax and tax on fuel and to expect fuel to be over 30% higher there.
Our destination today was the Bras D'Or Campground in Baddeck, NS. We were given the coordinates of a town to go to that was a short cut of about 100 km. I set the shortcut coordinates in the new GPS as a way point along the route to Baddeck. The problem was that after reaching the set way point the GPS wanted to route us back to the longer route to continue. We spent about a third of the trip wondering if we were headed to the right place. I took the way point out of the route and hoped for the best. We couldn't find our position on the turn by turn list in out trip book. About 10 miles from our destination we were relieved to see some other members of our group at service stations along the way. Had I been an explorer Newfoundland would have never been found.
Most of the route had been good controlled access highway but the short cut was windy most of he way and rough in spots. Before dinner we all set around Alec's propane fire pit and compared stories. Dinner was prepared by the wagon masters with help from Bob and Art. Bob grilled the burgers and dogs, Art made an apple cake in his Dutch Oven.
The afternoon and early evening were very cool and we were back at the coach right after dinner. While many plan to explore the nearby Cabot Trail in the AM, we plan to sleep in and have a leisurely day. We were in bed by 10:30.
We only took this one picture along the way. A similar colorful sign with some type of saying or claim to fame\ marked every town we passed through. It was cloudy and we had some rain. The country side was mostly rolling farmland. It looked a lot like Pennsylvania and some of New York. At our last park, Dunromin, wifi was terrible, so posting was delayed, I didn't get yesterday's pictures loaded and the Blog published until we were set up in Bras D'or. I may do better here since we are right by the office and the wifi connection seems a lot faster.
